Indonesia’s Stride Toward Golden Indonesia 2045:
AI as a Catalyst for Inclusive Growth
CastleAsia/PT Jasa Cita had the privilege of attending the 45th Global Edition of the World AI Show, held from 8–9 July 2025 at the JW Marriott in Jakarta. Co-organized by Trescon in collaboration with KORIKA, the Ministry of Industry of Indonesia, and Kadin DKI Jakarta, the event brought together policymakers, business leaders, academics, and tech experts to discuss how AI can help shape Indonesia’s journey toward becoming a high-income nation by 2045.
Indonesia is actively positioning itself as a regional hub for AI-driven innovation. This ambition aligns with its broader national strategy, Golden Indonesia 2045, which lays out goals for strong economic growth, technological independence, and a more inclusive digital economy. With AI transforming global industries, Indonesia’s efforts to integrate AI into priority sectors such as healthcare, education, energy, financial services, and manufacturing represent both a challenge and a significant opportunity.
A recurring theme throughout the forum was the potential for AI to act as an economic multiplier. Indonesia’s growing digital economy, rising investment in innovation, and efforts to close talent gaps all create a strong foundation for AI adoption. Panelists, however, also highlighted several persistent barriers, including fragmented regulatory frameworks, limited digital infrastructure outside cities, and a continued shortage of skilled AI professionals.
There was a broad agreement that collaboration is key in AI adoption. Accelerating it will require strong coordination across government, business, academia, and civil society. Many speakers highlighted the need to invest in digital literacy and workforce development to ensure Indonesia not only innovates responsibly but also protects against risks like misuse and cyber threats.
While challenges remain, the overall tone of the event was optimistic. Indonesia’s digital and AI-related policies are evolving, and recent initiatives in data governance, startup funding, and digital transformation are encouraging. The increase in local AI startups and partnerships with global tech companies signals growing confidence in Indonesia’s ability to compete in the region.
Looking ahead to 2045, the defining question will be how well Indonesia can use AI not just to boost productivity, but to drive inclusive, sustainable growth. With coordinated policies and a strong focus on equity, AI could become a key part of Indonesia’s long-term success and competitiveness.
